I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all
October 23rd, 2013. Why the halloween party was occurring on this night was unknown, but Xavier had taken his roll as host seriously. The ballroom, which was often used for formal events, was beautifully decorated in all things macabre and malevolent. The 6'9 Finnish male wore his Vampire costume, a new one this year despite having dressed as a Vampire since his early childhood. From the stereo, the song "Don't fear the Reaper" covered by HIM but originally by Blue Oyster Cult played loudly, and all along the wall was a buffet table full of treats and delicious foods. Whatever the school couldn't provide, his family did, as Halloween was a treasured tradition in his family.
The spikey haired male looked around the room in satisfaction, walking over to grab some vodka. He wasn't planning on getting drunk, not tonight, but he wasn't going to deny himself the odd drink. A strange thought went through his head -- in just a week, little more, it would be his twenty-fourth birthday. The day before that, it would have been his baby sister Emilia's birthday. The thought made him sad. He sighed, then began to sing along in his deep, baritone voice. "Seasons don't fear the reaper, nor do the wind, the sun or the rain. Come on baby, don't fear the reaper..." He sang softly, wondering when the first guests would arrive. He knew, of course, that he'd be able to tell when Hummingbird arrived. It would be hard not to notice. He chuckled to himself. Yes, speaking of Macabre, Becca was certainly one to leave an impression on others. He wasn't sure why he stuck around her -- she wasn't exactly quiet and thoughtful, something he appreciated in a partner -- but she was a good distraction sometimes and was amusing to be around. She'd been dubbed Hummingbird for a variety of reasons. For one, she never shut up. Ever. He was pretty sure that wasn't even in her vocabulary. Still, she accepted him for him and he didn't feel as lonely as he usually did when she hung around him, so he was willing to put up with her chatter. For a short time, at least.
