Yet, here she was, lying on her stomach at the edge of Clarissa Stewart's queen-sized bed during what she had anticipated to be a casual study session, which turned out to be just another nonproductive day in the life. Ever since she enrolled at King Protea College, Audrina had slowly changed her style. Long gone were the days when she dressed herself in sporty attire during the spring-summer seasons and nerdy-chic trends for the other half of the year. Now, she could still wear her shorts, tanks, and sneakers during the summer and at athletic events, like watching football games, but in order to fit in with the crowd of uppity, boastful blue-bloods that swarmed San Francisco, Audri had to acquire a more expensive taste. She was a nerd in every way but in dress and appearance. She would always be that nerdy tomboy from Burlingame on the inside, but outwards, she had to survive in this city, and dressing to impress was the only way to do it. Dressed how her parents always dreamed she would but never had when she was in her hometown, Audrina sported a baby blue lace dress with a light-brown leather belt around the waist to give her ensemble some shape and to show off her figure. She may not have had Clarissa's ample bust, nor her bravery to dress in an overly revealing fashion, but the nerdy bombshell had a body to be proud of, especially for a girl who hadn't always been this slim. As a child, she had been rather chubby, wore glasses, and dressed less-than-admirably. Everything changed when she was sixteen; she completely changed her wardrobe, restyled her hair and makeup, and even got a nose job, which she swore to keep secret from anybody outside the family. She would never let anyone know of her shameful appearance as a child. That part of her life was gone, and the new and improved Audrina Beaufort was who she now was. Audrina had decided against wearing heels with her dress, and had donned a pair of flats that matched the color of her attire just as nicely before she had arrived at Clarissa's house. Her athlete side still remained in part, and if she ever had a reason to run, she could do so much faster in flat shoes than in five-inch heels. No need to sacrifice practicality for a few extra inches in height. With a loud thud, the emerald-eyed prodigy shut her Physics textbook as a sign of surrender to the older blonde. After a couple hours, it became clear Clarissa had no interest in studying for final exams, which was fine with her. Audri had already fully prepared herself for the exams - old habits died hard. And if Miss Southern Belle had better things to do, so be it. She knew Clarissa well enough to understand that if she wasn't interested, no amount of convincing could make her do it. Pushing back the blonde locks that had fallen during her very brief moment of studying, Audrina glanced over at her fellow blonde to see what was so much more exciting than quality learning. All right, she'd admit, most people, who weren't Audrina nor any of her intellectual friends, would've found studying to be even remotely entertaining, but if they weren't going to prepare themselves for exams any longer, Audri would have liked to do something with her friend. "Okay, Rissa, I give up," offered Audrina, placing her books aside like a white flag of surrender. "If you really couldn't care less about Physics and our most important upcoming grade of the semester, tell me what we should do instead," she said. With Clarissa's wedding in the works, Audrina couldn't begin to imagine how busy a normal bride would've been, but the full-figured woman still seemed her usual self. It was funny how such different girls managed to be close friends, but they somehow managed to make it work. "Maybe you could tell me about the lucky man you're marrying? How are you and Mason doing?" proposed Audrina, lifting an eyebrow and folding her arms over her chest. "I may not be the most paramount woman of King Protea, but I know more about human nature than virtually anyone. I've read the same words you did on Gossip Girl's last post." Along with the social minefield that was the campus of King Protea College, Gossip Girl was just another aggravation to add to Audrina's list of reasons why the popular royalties weren't the most pleasant gems in the jewelry box. She knew better than to believe everything bit of garbage Gossip Girl spat out, and she was well aware that Clarissa and Mason were engaged, thus proving another post to be a lie. However, she was curious to learn how her friend was processing all of this. |
