Jonah was grinning from ear to ear as soon as Devyn was by his side and there was no sign of him stopping, “Wonderful,” the goof chuckled in response both to her doing better now that she was with him and for how he was doing. He was glad when seemed to like his idea of a race to the beach, she always had seemed fun-loving which was one of the things he liked most about her, and so far she hadn’t let him down in any way.
The race had been so close, that Jonah was unsure who exactly was going to win. In fact, he closed his eyes as the five of them collided, the fifth being Molly who doubled as the finish line. It only hurt a little, but he began laughing immediately, it was fun more than anything else. Able to tell that he was somewhere near the bottom of the pile just judging the weight and his proximity to the ground, Jonah peeked an eye open, seeing that he was directly on top of an annoyed looking Molly, which made him laugh harder. He shimmied his way out of the dogpile, jumping up with a lot of energy and slamming his fists into the air excitedly. “We won, we won!” he exclaimed, finishing with a small victory dance to the beat of whatever song happened to be playing.
As soon as his celebration was over, he was digging through the pile of flesh and cloth to find Devyn, pulling her out and picking her up bridal style and heading to the other side of the fire. He sat down on a soft looking blanket, having an internal debate for a moment before deciding to keep Devyn in his lap, resting his chin on her shoulder. “You okay?” he asked, wanting to make sure that she didn’t have any scratches or bruises that needed tending to, it hadn’t been his intent to cause any injuries, that just came as a product of fun sometimes. He reached his hands for hers stretching them out so he could inspect her arms for any boo-boos that he might need to make better. When he was sure that she was fine, he bumped his nose against her cheek, “We won...you know I couldn’t have done it without you,” he told her, a lopsided grin breaking out on his face as his arms snaked their way around her waist, hands still holding hers.
When Molly got to him in the introductions he let out an enthusiastic, “Hi!” and waved, making sure to give special attention to his boys that he’d hardly acknowledged yet, Freddie and Des, and throwing one more apologetic glance in Molly’s direction. Giving Devyn a small squeeze he glanced toward the coolers, ”Sorry, did you want anything to drink? I could grab something for you if you like.”
